This is a Swiss 8 Day pocket watch known as a Hebdomas due to the layout and the visible balance and was made circa 1920
When wound these watches will run for 8 days but invariably they do not, around 5 days is the norm
Also due to the unbelievable length of their mainspring, the watches tend to be erratic
This one is running well and running for around 5 days. It keeps time to within 5 minutes a day
Movement – the long mainspring is completely hidden by a mainspring cover. This is decorated with gold medals decorated with fine engraved detailing. The cover is signed “8 Jours, Ancre, Qualite Superieur Garantie”
The cover is in excellent condition
Case – the movement comes in a gunmetal open face case, which has a hinged back and a snap on bezel
The case has a smooth plain finish and is in 80% mint condition – there is signs of light pitting on the back. Despite this, this is still a very clean version of a gunmetal case as they are normally pretty rough
Dial – the white enamel dial has a visible balance and is decorated with silver enamel flowers and points.
The dial has a red 12 and then an inner 24 hour chapter ring with red numbers but the 12 is in black
The dial has gilt filigree hands and is signed “8 Jours, Hebdomas”
The dial is in 100% mint condition
The watch has a mineral glass held in place with a gilt frame.
