11.4 Very Rare Glass Painted Dial Pocket Watch. Open Face. 45mm. Key Wound / Key Set. Circa 1870


The watch has no silver marks and is made from low grade silver, which has then been covered with a gilt finish The watch has been cleaned and serviced and is in good working order but please do not expect quartz accuracy from a watch of this period and type Movement – the gilt bridge movement has a cylinder escapement and is in 80% mint condition – some light marks

Case – the movement comes in a low grade silver open face case, which has a hinged gilt Metal inner cover. The case has a gold finish on the back with silver coming through on the coin edged sides. The back of the case has a smooth plain finish The case is in 85% mint condition – some light wear and tear only

Dial – the dial has a white enamel chapter ring and in the centre there is a glass circular panel which is hand painted. The scene shows a gentleman playing a lyre to a seated lady. He is sitting on a green cushion with red curtains and a balcony behind him. Next to the lady is a desk, which has a heavy green and red table cloth with gold tassels and on the table is a chest The whole scene is like an oil painting. There are 5 hairlines on the outer chapter ring and a small nick near the 8. The glass is under painted and is slightly flaky but not too much and is in 90% mint condition overall
