13.70 Gilt Metal and Abalone Shell Watch Stand. Circa 1890

This gilt metal stand has a rectangular stone base. This supports two coiled gilt metal wire feet on the front and a single gilt wore strut on the back. The two front feet support an abalone shell with a gilt metal surround. The back strut supports a round metal disc which has a hook and is the watch stand part. The stand is best suited for watches 30-40mm wide. Surrounding this central column and watch stand are abalone shells, each with a gilt metal surround and hinged together. The stand measures 105mm x 65mm on the base x 130mm high. The stand is in 80% mint condition the shells are flawless but the gilt metal is dull and it is missing a clasp on the two shells allowing them to close and stay shut
