2.21 Early Under Painted HORN Cased Verge by J Smith. Pair Case / Open Face. 48mm. Key Wound / Key Set London 1775


This Original Horn cased Verge was made by JA Smith and has clear silver hallmarks for London 1775 The watch has been cleaned and serviced and is running the full length of its chain. The watch gains around approx 10 minutes in 24 Movement – the very deep gilt full plate fusee movement has a verge escapement and large bluster pillars. The movement also has a pierced watch cock with an engraved wedge shaped foot. The movement is signed “Ja Smith, London” # 396 and is in 95% mint condition – immaculate condition with only a few small scratches around one plate pin and the most vibrant blue steel screw on the balance foot

Inner case – the English silver inner case has a rich gold finish and its original bow and stem. The case has a hinged bezel and the movement swings out from the front. The case has a smooth plain finish and is in 95% mint condition –again ultra clean Outer case – the gilt outer case is covered in horn and held in place with small pins. The horn is in super condition with just one small piece missing on the bezel and a few hairlines cracks on the back and again a small piece is missing. The case also has its original button. There are quite are approx 5 pins are missing and this case is in much better condition than usual seen even on a 1770 verge

Dial – the white enamel dial has an outer 5 minute track and fancy gilt hands. The dial is in 90% mint condition – light scratches from the hands going round.
