This is a gilt metal seal made circa 1850
The key is not gold and has a slight metallic tinge to it
The seal is set with a red square base and is engraved with an image of a pea pod just opening and revealing its peas. Around the pea are the words All’s Discovered in reverse and this would have been used for flirtation when sending a letter
The shank of the seal is decorated with carved detailing and a strut work handle terminating in a suspension loop
The seal measures 22mm high x 13mm x 12mm on the base
The seal is in excellent condition – it has just lost its golden gleam that is all
