This an English silver verge with hallmarks for London 1796
Movement – the gilt full plate verge movement has cylindrical pillars, a fusee chain, a verge escapement and a beautifully pierced and engraved watch cock. The movement also has a steel regulator and is signed “A Newland, London” 12847. The movement is in 90% mint condition – small marks only
Inner case – the movement comes in an inner case, which has a hinged bezel and the watch is wound from the back, set from the front and is accessed from the front also. The case has its original bow and stem. It has a smooth plain finish and is in 70% mint condition – obvious wear with many bruises and dents
Outer case – the original and matching outer case has its original clasp. It has a smooth plain finish and is in 80% mint condition – again signs of wear with bruises and dents.
Dial – the white enamel dial has gilt hands and is in 85% mint condition – chipping round the edge of the dial which is obscured by (and probably caused by) the bezel when closed
The watch has a mineral bulls eye glass
The watch measures 56mm wide x 24mm high including the domed glass
The watch is key wound / key set and comes with a key
