This is a rare military pocket watch made by Zenith.
It was made for the Indian military – marked with the I and broad arrow mark on the back BUT it is also marked with a G.S. MK I which is the highest-grade Army issue watch and these are hard to find.
Movement – the gilt 7 jewel ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement and is signed “Zenith, Swiss Made, 3040340”. The movement is in 85% mint condition – some small scratches
Case – the movement comes in a heavy white metal open face case, which has a screw off back and bezel. The case is signed “Zenith, 8173679” and the back of the case is marked I with the broad arrow for the Indian military designation and also G.S. MK I, 8173679.
The case is in 85% mint condition – some deep scratches around the edges which I suspect have been caused by incorrect handling – using a watch knife to try and prise the screw back cover on
Dial – the black enamel dial has old luminous numbers and hands. The dial signed “Zenith, 1939, Swiss Made” and also features a broad arrow. The dial is in 75% mint condition – some damage on the 10-11 and also on the sub seconds.
The watch measures 57mm wide x 19mm deep
The watch is stem wound / stem set
The watch has a deep bevelled mineral glass
