This is a rare model 1 23J Hampden pocket watch, Special Railway grade and was made for the American Railroads.
Movement – the nickel ¾ plate model 1 movement has a lever escapement decorated with damascening and large raised gold jewel settings. The movement is further decorated with gold signatures, instead of black and gold finished screws. The movement is signed “HWco, SR (in a flag), 23 Jewels, Adjusted” # 1092094 and is in 95% mint condition.
Case – the movement comes in a gold plated open face case, which has a screw off back and bezel. The case is decorated with floral engraving, engine turning and coin edged sides. The case is in 85% mint condition – some rubbing and wear with some traces of metal coming through the plating on the edges
Dial – the white enamel dial is double sunk and hand fancy blue steel spade hands. The dial is signed “Hampden Watch Co” and is in 100% mint condition
The watch measures 52mm wide x 15mm deep
