This is a very interesting pocket watch made by the New York Standard Watch Co, USA.

The movement has a straight line lever with a patented “Worm gear escapement” which was patented by R J Clay.

This watch comes in a glass backed case. Going back a 100 years ago, salesmen from the watch companies would visit shops to show the latest models and rather house them in cases, where the back would have to be removed, they used these cases which had a snap on back with a glass back so the dial and movement were visible. Shops and prospective owners, would select the dial, movement and then the case they wanted for their watch.

Movement – the gilt ¾ plate movement has a lever and worm gear escapement. The movement is signed “New York Standard Watch Co, 33445” and is in 90% mint condition – 1 deep scratch on the top plate

Case – the movement comes in a white metal open face case, which has a snap on back and bezel both with a glass cover. The case has a smooth plain finish and is in 85% mint condition – the case is a bit dull and could do with a professional polish

Dial – the white enamel dial has a full set of blue steel hands and is in 70% mint condition – multiple faint hairlines throughout the dial

The watch measures 52mm wide x 17mm deep

The watch is stem wound / lever set

The watch has a mineral glass back and front
