This is a rare South Bend pocket watch which comes in a 14K gold case. The watch had a production run of 500 with a total run of 2500.
Movement – high quality nickel bridge movement has a lever escapement with a micrometer regulator, gold jewel settings and gold train wheels. The movement is decorated with slanted damascening and is signed “South Bend Watch Co, Ind, USA, 21 Jewels, 431” # 969012. The movement is in 95% mint condition
Case – the movement comes in a 14K gold open face case, which has a hinged inner, back cover and snap on bezel. The case is decorated on the back with striped engraving and a diamond lozenge. The inner cover is signed “South Bend, Chesterfield”.
The rest of the case has a smooth plain finish and is in 90% mint condition – light wear with one small bruise on the side
Dial – the white enamel dial has attractive blue steel hands and is signed “South Bend”. The dial has Roman numerals which is unusual for an American 12 size watch. The dial is in 98% mint condition – 1 small hairline cluster on the 7
The watch has a mineral glass
The watch measures 45mm wide x 10mm deep
The watch is stem wound / stem set
The watch comes in a grey suede box lined with velvet and silk and signed “South Bend, Chesterfield, a gentleman’s watch”
