This is a rare Railroad pocket watch made by the Illinois Watch Co. It is slightly larger than usual and is classified as a 17s. The watch has a 60 hour mainspring but is unmarked

The watch has a model 13 movement.

The watch has the rare case which has a hinged bezel and back

 

Movement – the nickel bridge movement has a lever escapement, raised gold jewel settings, gold train and a gold capped escape wheel. It runs for over 60 hours and is an unmarked 60 hour watch. It is signed “Sangamo Special, 23J, Illinois Watch Co, Adj Temp and 6 positions” 4720006. The movement is in 95% mint condition – a superb example

Case – the movement comes in a Wandsworth 14K Gold filled case which is signed "Illinous Watch Co, Sangamo Special" on the inner cover,

The case has a fixed carved bow, a hinged back, hinged inner and a hinged bezel. The case has cross hatch detailing on the edges and a smooth plain finish on the rest of the case and is in 95% mint condition – a superb case.

Dial – the white enamel dial is double sunk and has a full set of blue steel spade hands – specific to this model. The dial is signed “Illinois” and is in 100% mint condition – pristine and even the hands have their original bloom.

The watch has a mineral glass

The watch measures 51mm wide x 14mm deep

The watch is stem wound / lever set

The watch comes in its promotional two piece white metal cigarette case style box signed “Sangamo Special, Bunn Special” and which has a match striker groove engraved onto the base. The box is not suitable to carry the watch unless you add a cardboard liner as it was meant to be given with the watch to store cigarettes.
