Silver Waltham Civil War era pocket watch c1864

Silver Waltham Civil War era pocket watch c1864

Code: WA50

SOLD

This is an American Waltham Wm Ellery pocket watch which has a serial number which dates it to being produced during the American Civil War.

The watch has been cleaned and serviced and works well. However the hands are mismatched and have a tendancy to catch and foul and stop the watch until the hands are realigned. They need changing or straightening.  So the watch is sold "As is" with this common fault.

Movement – the gilt full plate movement has an engraved watch cock, a simple steel balance and 15 Jewels. The movement is signed “Wm Ellery, Boston, Mass, 152313”. The movement is in 95% mint condition – the head of one movement plate screw is missing.

Case – the movement comes in a Am Watch Co “Eagle” case marked R114. The case has a simple crest on the front. The rest of the case has a smooth plain finish and is in 90% mint condition – the front cover spring has gone and so the front cover does not pop open but has to be lifted manually open

Dial – the early one piece, white enamel dial has mismatched blue steel hands and is signed “American Watch Co”. The dial is in 99% mint condition

The watch has a mineral glass

The watch is key wound / key set and comes with a key

The watch measures 54mm wide x 17mm deep – an American 18 size.
