Most of the watches in my “Watches for restoration section” were purchased with a view to clean and service them and list them in my main section. However, when I inspect a watch if I find one or two faults then I list them here and this watch is one of those examples
The watch runs well but has not been cleaned or serviced
The mineral glass is slightly too small and loose. It will stay in with a little glue
The engraving on the back cover does not line up at 12 when screwed shut.
Movement – the high quality nickel ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement and a micrometer regulator. The movement has gold train wheels, gold jewel settings and is decorated with damascening. The movement is signed “Illinois Watch Co, Springfield, Bunn Special, Adjust Temp & 6 Position, 21 Jewels” # 3450643. The movement is in 90% mint condition
Case – the movement comes in a gold plated open face case by Wandsworth which has a screw on back and bezel. The case has engine turning and floral engraving but the back cover when closed doesn’t line up to 12, just 11.55. The case is in 95% mint condition – a superb example
Dial – the white enamel is double sunk and has a full set of blue steel hands. The dial is signed “Illinois” and is in 85% mint condition – a hairline in the centre, 3 and 11
The watch has a mineral glass – this is loose and will either require some adhesive or a bigger size
The watch measures 50mm wide x 13mm deep
The watch is stem wound / lever set
