This is a rare American Railroad grade pocket watch by South Bend.
The watch is working well but has not been cleaned or serviced by us and the dial needs a good clean or refinish, hence the low price for this rare watch.
Movement – the top quality model 2, nickel 3 finger bridge movement has a lever escapement, a micrometer regulator, gold train wheels, gold centre wheel and gold jewel screw settings. The movement is signed “The Studebaker, 229, South Bend Watch Co, 21 Jewels, Adjust to Temp & 5 positions” # 643845. The movement is in 95% mint condition – a superb example
Case – the movement comes in a gold plated open face case, which has a screw off back and bezel. The case has finely engraved edges and floral engraving on the back. The case is in 90% mint condition – a good case but the back doesn’t seem to screw down flush to the rest of the case, instead there is a 0.5mm gap between the two in places
Dial – the silvered dial has a full set of blue steel hands, continuous minute marks and is signed “Studebaker”. The dial is grey and tarnished and would need some attention, hopefully just a good clean
The watch is stem wound / lever set
The watch measures 51mm wide x 13mm deep
The watch has a mineral glass
