This is a rare and hard to find pocket watch. The movement was made by Waltham, USA circa 1896. It was then sent to England where it was cased and sold with hallmarks for Birmingham 1898. This was a common practice for American and Swiss made watches wanting to be sold in the UK. However those watches conformed to a normal size with cases made by Dennison and others to fit a standard size watch. This case and watch are of completely different proportions and is of a slimmer profile than the majority of half hunters

Movement – the gilt ¾ plate 14 size 13 jewel movement has a lever escapement. The movement has screw jewel settings, damascening on the winding wheels and is signed “Am Watch Co, Waltham, Mass, Hillside” # 7143728. The movement is in 90% mint condition – a few marks and scratches

Case – the movement comes in an English silver half hunter case which is of a smaller profile than most half hunter cases. The case has a hinged inner, back and front cover. The front cover pops open to 90 degrees when you press the winder in.

The inside of the back cover is engraved “Presented by Mrs E Phillips to William Jacobs in recognition of his 16 years valuable service, Dec 1899” The inner cover is engraved “Henry W Bedford, 67 Regent St, London”. There are small initials on the back WJ.

The case has blue enamel Roman numerals on the front. The case is decorated with engine turning and coin edged sides and is in 95% mint condition – a very clean case

Dial – the white enamel dial has a full set of blue steel hands and is signed “A.W.Co. Waltham, Mass”. The dial is in 99% mint condition

The watch has a synthetic glass over the dial but a mineral glass in the front cover

The watch is stem wound / stem set

The watch measures 50mm wide x 13mm deep
