This is a curious piece of high Victoriana.
The stand has an oval alabaster base
Sitting on this is a gilt metal flared base decorated with engraving. This supports a hinged gilt mount and two halves of an abalone shell.
These hinge open to reveal a gilt metal pocket watch stand. This has a gilt plunger and T bar style closing mechanism to hold both halves together.
The stand will take smaller sized watches, 35mm and under. There are also two hooks on the back for keys, chains or jewellery
The stand measures 130mm high x 65mm wide
The stand is in 95% mint condition – a wonderful example of abalone with pink iridescent hues.
