This English duplex pocket watch has a been exposed to water and has rusted up completely. The chain is broken and the balance is rusty. Obviously it is not working.
The case however is a superb example and it could possibly be used to house another movement or remove the movement and keep the dial and put a quartz movement in the case
The watch has clear hallmarks for London 1822
Movement – the gilt full plate fusee movement has a duplex escapement with a brass ‘scape wheel. The movement has a large diamond endstone. The movement is signed “Royal Exchange, 10623. The movement is completely rusted up
The movement has its original gilt dust cap
Case – the movement comes in an English silver hunter case, which has a hinged back, front cover and bezel and the watch is wound from the back, set from the front and swings out from the front also. The case has a smooth plain finish with gold hinges. The case is in 90% mint condition has some rust on the inside of the back cover.
Dial – the off white enamel dial has gilt / gold hands but no seconds hand. The dial is signed “Jas McCabe, Royal Exchange, London, 10623” and in 100% mint condition – no hairlines but there is rust stains
