This is an English First World War pocket watch made by S. Alexander & Sons, Coventry.
The watch has English silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1916
Movement – the gilt ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement with a compensated balance. The movement is signed “S. Alexander & Sons, Coventry” # 91165 and is also engraved with a broad arrow British government mark. The movement is in 90% mint condition –some light marks but overall a superb example
Case – the movement comes in a large and heavy English silver open face case, which has a hinged inner, back and a hinged bezel. The case a smooth plain finish with an extra long pin set so that it protrudes from the case. The case is in 90% mint condition – some small marks on the back but again, overall a very good impressive English case
Dial – the white enamel dial has a full set of blue steel hands including a sweep centre seconds hand. The dial is signed “S Alexander & Sons, Coventry 91165” and features the broad arrow mark also. The dial is in 85% mint condition – some small crack marks in the dial at 3, 5, 6 and 8.
The watch comes in its original mahogany box which measures 115mm x 90mm x 110mm
The box has a white plastic plaque on the top for the watch details
The box has a hinged lid and a brass holder for the watch with a screw on bezel.
The watch has been fitted with a mineral glass by my repairer when the watch was serviced. However the watch when in the box was not designed for the watch to have a glass so this is loose.
The watch measures 55mm wide x 19.7mm deep
The watch is stem wound / pin set
