This is an English silver pair cased verge pocket watch made circa 1740 and is pre hallmark

The watch runs well but gains around 20 minutes in 24 hours.

Movement – the gilt full plate verge fusee movement has square baluster pillars and a large winged watch cock with a pierced D shaped foot. The movement is signed “Jn Grape, London, AG”. The movement is in 95% mint condition – superb condition

Inner case – the movement comes in a silver inner case where the watch is wound from the back, set from the front and swings out from the front also. The case has case maker’s marks WB. The case has its original bow and stem. The case has a smooth plain finish and is in 90% mint condition – the usual groove from the outer case but still an excellent example

Outer case – the matching outer case is decorated with a classical repousse scene on the back with . The case has a large box hinge and original button. The case is in 90% mint condition – two small repairs to the faces

Dial – the silver champleve dial has steel beetle and poker hands and black enamel Roman and 5 minute Arabic numbers. The dial is decorated with raised lozenges between each number. The dial has an aperture with a date function. The dial is signed “Grape, London” and is in 95% mint condition – some small scratches and enamel loss

The watch has a bulls eye mineral glass. 

The watch measures 51mm wide x 26mm deep
