This is a wonderful example of an English made pocket watch. The watch has English silver hallmarks for London 1891
Movement – the English made gilt ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement with a compensated balance and screwed in jewel settings. The movement is signed “Goldsmiths Company, 112 Regent Street, London, 17605”. The movement is in 100% mint condition – just superb condition with even the blue steel screws looking untouched and retaining their original bloom
Case – the movement comes in a heavy English silver open face case, which has a hinged inner, back and snap on bezel. The case has a scroll monogram on the back but the initials are in such an ornate scroll, it is hard to ascertain exactly what they stand for. The inner case is hand engraved “D J L Routh” so that may hold a clue. The case is stamped with a serial number 17604 – which I believe may have been an error at assembly. The case has a smooth plain finish and is in 95% mint condition – a very handsome example
Dial – the white enamel dial has a full set of blue steel hands and a centre seconds hand also. The dial is signed “Goldsmiths Company, 112 Regent Street, London, 17605”.
The dial is in 100% - just as with the movement, the blue steel hands retain their original blue / purple bloom
The watch has a bevelled mineral glass
The watch measures 53mm wide x 15mm deep
The watch is stem wound / pin set
The watch comes in a leather box lined with silk and velvet. The silk lined inner cover depicts an image of a factory and is signed “British Goldsmiths Company”. The box does show some wear but is a lovely addition to this handsome watch
