Most of the watches in my “Watches for restoration section” were purchased with a view to clean and service them and list them in my main section. However, when I inspect a watch if I find one or two faults then I list them here and this watch is one of those examples
This watch has a faulty mainspring - The winder will continuously wind with no power going to the balance.
Also the bezel is missing
Movement – the gilt ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement and is signed “J W Benson, 15 Jewels, Adjusted, Swiss Made”. The movement is in 99% mint condition - superb visual condition but not working.
Case – the movement comes in an English silver half hunter case by Benson which has a hinged inner, back and front cover and the front cover pops open crisply to 90 degrees when you press the winder in.
The case has blue enamel numbers on the front cover and a smooth plain finish on the rest of the case. The case is in 95% mint condition – superb condition BUT NO BEZEL
Dial – the white enamel dial has a blue steel sub seconds hand and a pair of gilt hands. The dial is signed “JW Benson London, Swiss Made”. The dial is in 95% mint condition – dirt only, no damage
The watch has a no bezel and therefore no glass over the dial. The watch has a mineral glass in the front cover
The watch measures 50mm wide x 13mm deep
The watch is stem wound / stem set
