Most of the watches in my “Watches for restoration section” were purchased with a view to clean and service them and list them in my main section. However, when I inspect a watch if I find one or two faults then I list them here and this watch is one of those examples
This watch has a broken spring. The winder will continuously wind with no power going to the balance. The glass also needs replacing
The watch has hallmarks for London 1899
This is a good example of an English made J W Benson pocket watch with an English movement and case and is worthy of restoration.
Movement – the gilt ¾ plate movement has an adjusted. The movement is signed “The Keyless Ludgate Watch, JW Benson, Patent, No 4658, Best London Make, By Warrant to the Queen, Ludgate Hill, London” # 820222. The movement is in 95% mint condition – superb visual condition but not working.
Case – the movement comes in a top quality English silver half Hunter case where the front cover pops open when you press the winder in. The case has makers marks for JWB”. The case has a smooth plain finish with a dark blue enamel chapter ring.
The case has a gold bow
The case is in 85% mint condition – light marks and loss of enamel
Dial – the white enamel dial has a full set of blue steel hands and is signed “J W Benson, London”. The dial is in 99% mint condition.
The watch has a yellow plastic glass over the dial and a smaller glass in the front cover
The watch is stem wound / pin set
The watch measures 51mm wide x 16mm deep
