As you may know I have had the pleasure of supplying watches to many films and TV shows over the years. In the majority of cases, when the production team approaches me, I won’t have heard about the film or show, as it hasn’t been released yet. This was the case when I supplied chains for the first series of “The Crown”…I had a vague idea it was about the British Royal Family….and I supplied chains for Winston Churchill and miscellaneous cast members. However, by the time of series 3, my partner and I, were avid viewers and I was delighted to be supplying a watch and chain for Prince Charles (played by the lovely Josh O’Connor).
As you may know The Crown has now concluded its run and the production team had the very canny idea of how to recoup some of the alleged whopping $13 million per episode – sell off the props! So, the costumes, props, scripts, set pieces and even The Coronation coach (replica of course) were put up for sale in Bonhams. I was bemused to see my small contribution towards this show sell for 4 x the pre estimate. It just goes to show you what a bit of showbiz stardust does!
