This is seal was designed to be used with hot wax for sealing letters.
I have made an impression of this seal using hot wax to show that the seal works as intended and also to give a clearer image of the intaglio.
The wax impression comes in a small plastic case and is included with the seal.
This seal has a solid 15K gold handle and suspension loop and a gold on metal base. The seal has no assay marks but has been thoroughly tested and is sold as 15K where described. The seal comes with a gold ring, attached to the suspension loop; this has hallmarks for Birmingham 1849
The base of the seal is oval with a red agate stone engraved with a beautiful intaglio of a dove holding a sprig in its beak with the words “J’Aime La Liberte”
Combined with the date on the suspension loop of 1849, this seal refers to the French revolution of 1848 which lead to the collapse of the July Monarchy and the foundation of the French Second Republic
The seal has a two pieced coiled strut handle terminating in a suspension loop
The seal measures 21mm x 20mm x 17mm
The seal is in 95% mint condition – light wear only.
