This is seal was designed to be used with hot wax for sealing letters.
I have made an impression of this seal using hot wax to show that the seal works as intended and also to give a clearer image of the intaglio.
The wax impression comes in a small plastic case and is included with the seal.

The gilt seal is in the form of a small cage with no door and topped with a suspension loop.
The seal has a claw base which holds a glass stone engraved with an intaglio of the side profile of Marie Antoinette wearing a cap on a her head, just prior to her execution.
The execution of Marie Antoinette was one of the defining moments of the French Revolution and abroad many were shocked by her execution and was seen as a sympathetic figure or conversely she was also seen as a scapegoat and what was wrong with the old regime in France
The seal measures 25mm x 11mm x 11mm and is in 95% mint condition – superb condition
