This is seal was designed to be used with hot wax for sealing letters.
I have made an impression of this seal using hot wax to show that the seal works as intended and also to give a clearer image of the intaglio.
The wax impression comes in a small plastic case and is included with the seal.
This is a gilt metal seal made circa 1790 – 1810
The seal has a round base set with an orange glass stone. This is carved with the name WILLIAM in reverse
The seal has a carved base and strut handle terminating in a suspension loop.
The seal measures 20mm high x 12mm on the base.
The seal is in 85% mint condition – the gilding has mostly worn away and the handle leans slightly to one side from years of use but this is honest wear and the wear is reflected in the price
