This is seal was designed to be used with hot wax for sealing letters.

I have made an impression of this seal using hot wax to show that the seal works as intended and also to give a clearer image of the intaglio.

The wax impression comes in a small plastic case and is included with the seal.

This is a Georgian gilt seal set with a red brown glass stone which is engraved with a very unusual intaglio of a cupid astride a donkey with the words in French “Ces sont me sujets” – “these are my subjects”

Now either the sender is being particularly unkind about someone or, as I would like to think, the sender is perhaps implying love makes fools of us.

The very nice gilt seal has a milled open  base and the handle is formed of two halves joined by a suspension loop. The loops of each half is a snake following its tail

The seal measures 24mm x 18mm x 15mm and is in 95% mint condition –
