This is seal was designed to be used with hot wax for sealing letters.
I have made an impression of this seal using hot wax to show that the seal works as intended and also to give a clearer image of the intaglio.
The wax impression comes in a small plastic case and is included with the seal.
This is a gilt metal seal made circa 1790 – 1810
The seal has a round base set with a green glass stone. This is carved with a beautiful intaglio of a sheaf of wheat with the words “Peace and Plenty”. Remember this was made in between or just after the Napoleonic wars
The seal has a strut handle terminating in a suspension loop. The seal measures 32mm high x 15mm on the base. The seal is in 85% mint condition – the gilding has mostly worn away, plus the handle leans slightly but this is still a superb seal in honest condition
