This is a Victorian gold cased seal – that is a core of metal with a layer of gold on top. It looks and feels like gold but on close inspection you can see areas of metal coming through the thick gold covering
The seal weighs in total 20g
The seal has a large square base set with a red hard stone
The base is decorated deep carved edges
The strut handle is also deeply carved and topped with a suspension loop
The seal measures 31mm x 22mm x 19mm
The seal is in 85% mint condition – superb condition but on close inspection you can see areas of metal coming through the thick gold covering
