Victorian gilt Seal with Classical figure intaglio 1850

This seal has a base carved with an intaglio and was designed to be used with hot wax for sealing letters.

I have made an impression of this seal using hot wax to show that the seal works as intended and also to give a clearer image of the intaglio.

The wax impression comes in a small plastic case and is included with the seal

This is a larger seal and would make an interesting pendant

The gilt metal seal has a square base set with a an oval white glass stone engraved with the intaglio of a classical figure. The oval within the square creates an attractive border around the intaglio

The seal has an ornately carved base and handle and is topped with a suspension loop.

The seal measures 25mm x 21mm x 18mm and is in 90% mint condition –traces of gilding on the shank has gone brassy with use and the stone is scratched – still makes a good impression though
