English silver half hunter made by Rolex for Northern Goldsmiths c1928

This movement was made by Rolex for the Northern Goldsmiths of Newcastle.

The Swiss movement is not signed “Rolex” but is their typical layout and style and this was a common partnership between the two companies. The English silver case has hallmarks for Birmingham 1928

Movement – the nickel bridge movement has a lever escapement and is signed “Northern Goldsmith Company Newcastle, Timed 3 positions for all climates, 15 Jewels, Swiss Made” The movement is in 80% mint condition – numerous marks and scratches

Case – the movement comes in an English silver half hunter case by Dennison. The case is that little heavier than usual and is marked 2oz on the inner cover to denote the weight. The case has a hinged inner, back and front cover and the front cover pops open crisply to 90 degrees when you press the winder in. The case has a blue enamel chapter ring on the front cover. The rest of the case has a smooth plain finish and is in 85% mint condition – some scuffs and light scratches on the back

Dial – the white enamel dial has a full set of gilt half hunter hands and is signed “Northern Goldsmiths Co, Newcastle, Admiralty, Swiss Made”. The dial is in 99% mint condition

The watch has a mineral glass over the dial and a synthetic one in the front cover.

The watch measures 51mm wide x 15mm deep

The watch is stem wound / stem set 

The watch comes in a period leather box lined with velvet and silk from the original retailer.
