This pocket watch was made by the esteemed watchmaker Barwise and has silver hallmarks for London 1814
This watch has a particularly unusual case and a very rare movement with a Pirouette verge escapement
These types of watches are incredibly scarce with one example in the Science Museum collection – see the link below
Movement – the gilt full plate fusee movement has a pirouette verge escapement with a steel balance wheel with a slow beating balance with curved spokes and a large diamod endstone
The movement is in 90% mint condition - some scratches on the plate screws
Case – the movement comes in a very unusual silver half hunter case – the earlier style with no bezel and inner glass and in the case the orientation of the 12 does not correspond to the dial, although all is original and correct. The gilt inner cover is signed “Barwise, London”
The very heavy and large silver case is decorated with engine turning and has a gilt chapter ring and a flat stylish pendant and bow. The case is in 95% mint condition – super crisp condition
Dial – the white enamel dial has a pair of gilt hands and a blue steel centre seconds hand. The dial is in 99% mint condition
The watch measures 60mm wide x 21mm deep
The watch is key wound / key set and comes with an old key
The watch has a mineral glass in the aperture but the construction of the case does not allow for a glass over the dial
