This is a Scottish verge pocket watch and comes in an English silver case with hallmarks for London 1771. The watch keeps time to around 30 minutes a day.

Movement – the gilt full plate fusee movement has a verge escapement, square baluster pillars and a pierced watch cock decorated with a phoenix and scrolls. The movement also has a silver regulator disc and is signed “Jas Herron. Ayr, No 57”. The movement is in 90% mint condition – some scratches on and around the plate pins

Inner case – the movement comes in a silver inner case, which has a hinged bezel. The watch is wound from the back, is set from the front and is accessed from the front also. The case has a smooth plain finish and is in 90% mint condition – light wear

Outer case – the original outer case has a good selection of watch papers from Scotland all bearing the names Miss Band or John Band on the back – the original owners. The case is in 85% mint condition – the dome of the case button has worn away and there are a few dents also

Dial – the white enamel dial has a pair of gilt hands and is in 85% mint condition – the dial has a build up of scratches and marks but no hairlines or damage

The watch has a domed mineral glass

The watch measures 52mm wide x 25mm deep
