This is a rare American Railroad grade pocket watch by South Bend which had a total production run of 6000. This is the model marked “The Studebaker” – not to be confused with the model just marked Studebaker.
Movement – the top quality model 2, nickel 3 finger bridge movement has a lever escapement, a micrometer regulator, gold train wheels, gold centre wheel and gold jewel screw settings. The movement is signed “The Studebaker, 229, South Bend Watch Co, 21 Jewels, Adjust to Temp & 5 positions” # 885472. The movement is in 95% mint condition – tiny marks only, overall a superb example
Case – the movement comes in a gold plated open face case, which has a screw off back and bezel. The case has a smooth plain finish and the case is in 90% mint condition – two small points where metal has come through the plating plus some brassiness to the bow but still an excellent case
Dial – the white enamel dial is double sunk. It has a full set of blue steel hands, and is signed “South Bend”. The dial is in 100% mint condition
