This is seal was designed to be used with hot wax for sealing letters.
I have made an impression of this seal using hot wax to show that the seal works as intended and also to give a clearer image of the intaglio.
The wax impression comes in a small plastic case and is included with the seal.
This is a seal fob made circa 1820 and would make a lovely charm or if grouped with some other pieces, it could make a very interesting pendant.
This is a Georgian gilt metal seal.
The seal is set with a red hard stone engraved with the intaglio of a bird with a letter in its beak and the words REPLY QUICK
The gilt seal has an ornate carved shank and handle decorated topped with a carved suspension ring. The seal was set with stones but these are mostly missing or damaged
The seal measures 28mm x 12mm
The seal is NOT in good condition – there is a solder repair from the handle to the base and stones are missing.
