Rare SIX HOUR dial pocket watch by F Vaucher c1880

SOLD

In over 30 years of dealing with watches I have never seen a piece like this.

I suspect that this was a prototype or a one off piece by the maker.

FG Vaucher is a Swiss manufacturer but this curiously signed New York.

Movement – the light gilt ¾ plate movement has a cylinder escapement and is fully jewelled. The movement has a very unusual rectangular endstone cap, built into the watch cock; the likes I have never seen before. The movement is signed “F G Voucher, New York” and is in 90% mint condition – an H has been lightly hand engraved onto the movement.

Case – the movement comes in a top quality open face case, which has a hinged back and bezel. The inner cover is signed “Gugy F” – the maker.

The case has a gold bow and gold hinges. It has a smooth plain finish and is in 95% mint condition

Dial – the white enamel dial has a completely different layout than usual with the 12 and 6 being at the 12 position and then the numbers doubling up round the dial. The minutes are indicated 15-60 between each sets of hour numbers. The watch has a single hand. The tip is in the form of a F and the tail is a V. The dial is in 100% mint condition

The watch measures 50mm wide x 15mm deep

The watch has a mineral glass

The watch is stem wound – the hand is set manually.
