This is seal was designed to be used with hot wax for sealing letters.
I have made an impression of this seal using hot wax to show that the seal works as intended and also to give a clearer image of the intaglio.
The wax impression comes in a small plastic case and is included with the seal.
This is a gilt metal seal made circa 1790 – 1810
The seal has a square base set with a black hard stone. This is carved with an interesting intaglio of a letter with the words “Read and Believe”.
The seal has a carved base with a strut handle terminating in a suspension loop. The seal measures 22mm high x 15mm x 12mm on the base.
The seal is in 90% mint condition – loss of gilding on the suspension loop
