This is a rare watch made by Vacheron & Constantin, made especially for the Northern Aluminium Company Ltd. These watches were made in small numbers only; the exact production is unknown and were given to employees on leaving the company

The watch are incredibly light. When you pick it up, you think there is nothing inside the case. They weigh 20g approx as opposed to a dress watch of the same period which would weigh 55g. A classic pocket watch from the 1900s would weigh between 90g to 140g

Movement – the high quality nickel bridge movement has a lever escapement with a micrometer regulator. The movement is jewelled to the centre and is decorated with damascening. The movement is signed “Vacheron & Constantin, Geneve, Swiss, Adjusted to Temperatures, 17 Jewels, 439/7” # 513791. The movement is in 100% mint condition – flawless

Case – the movement comes in an aluminium open face case, which has a snap on back and bezel. The case is stamped “Vacheron & Constantin, Swiss”.

The back of the case is engraved “Presented to B. Ashington, By Northern Aluminium Company Ltd, in recognition of long and loyal service, 1955”

The rest of the case has a smooth plain finish and is in 90% mint condition – the back has some scratches and marks

Dial – the silvered dial has raised white colour gold numbers with a mirror finish and white aluminium hands against the matt silvered dial. The dial is signed “Vacheron & Constantin, Geneve, Swiss” and is in 99% mint condition

The watch measures 44mm wide x 8mm deep
