This pocket watch was used in the filming of BBCs Great Expectations. It was used as a main prop in by the character “Miss Haversham” played by Olivia Coleman

This is an unusual French pocket watch.

The case is silver but has no assay marks

This watch has a cylinder escapement and manually set hands (ie you move the hands with your fingers). Due to this, the watch is not the most accurate of watches and is more of a decorative piece.

Movement – the light gilt ¾ plate movement has a cylinder escapement and is signed “S. Marx & Fils, 48 Rue Sebastapol, Paris”. The movement is in 90% mint condition – light marks

Case – the movement comes in an unusual silver half hunter case which is of the highest quality. It has a snap on back and a hinged front. The front cover is decorated with a chapter ring with raised Roman numbers on the front with an arched accent between each number. The back of the case has similar decoration in high relief plus leaf motifs and the letter C.

The case has a large carved bow and winder. The case has a smooth plain finish on the sides and is in 95% mint condition

Dial – the silver dial has large gilt hands, engraved numbers and engraved detailing in the centre. The dial is signed “Philippe Horloger Fab, Palais Royal 66-67. The dial is in 95% mint condition – 2 soft bruises from the outer cover clipping shut in that area

The watch has a mineral glass

The watch is stem wound / the hands are set by hand

The watch measures 44mm wide x 18mm deep x 66mm long inc the bow
