This is a magnificent silver cased pocket watch by French.
The watch has a pivot detent chronometer escapement which is in good condition but the top pivot on the escape wheel is broken and the watch is not working.
Movement – the high grade nickel 3 finger bridge movement has a helical hairspring with a pivot detent escapement. The movement has fine wolf teeth winding wheels, large raised gold jewel settings and is decorated with damascening. The movement is numbered 1892 and is in 95% mint condition
Case – the movement comes in a superb large silver open face case, which has a hinged inner, back and bezel. The case is stamped “Fine Silver” 1892 and the inner cover is signed
“Chronometer M French & Son, Royal Exchange, London”.
This larger and heavier than usual case has gold jurgensen lips on the back and bezel and gold hinges and a gold bow also. The case is decorated with fine silver and niello decoration with the back cover having a T shaped design set amongst vine leaves. The case is in 95% mint condition – a superb example
Dial – the white enamel dial has a full set of blue steel hands and red 24 hour markings. The dial is signed M French & Son and is in 100% mint condition
The watch has a mineral glass
The watch measures 56mm x 18mm deep
