English Silver J W Benson Half Hunter for George VI coronation c1937

This pocket watch was made by J W Benson of London in their Swiss factory. The movement watch was sent back to England where it was cased and sold. It comes in a top quality English silver case which has clear hallmarks for London 1937 and was made to commemorate the coronation of George VI in 1937

The original J W Benson box has the GRVI cypher in gilt lettering on the lid. The box is larger than usual with a recess for a commemorative coin featuring the King and Queen

Movement – this is a good quality gilt ¾ plate movement which has a lever escapement and is signed “J W Benson, 15 Jewels Swiss Made”. The movement is in 95% mint condition

Case – the movement comes in a good English silver Half Hunter case by J W Benson. The case has a hinged inner, back and front cover and the front cover pops open crisply to 90 degrees when you press the winder in. The case has blue enamel Roman numbers on the front cover. The case has a smooth plain finish with the cypher of George VI engraved on the back along with his initials and the year. The case is in 80% mint condition – the case does have some bruises and signs of wear which is reflected in the price
 

Dial – the white enamel dial has a full set of gilt hands and is signed “J W Benson, Swiss Made” The dial is in 100% mint condition.

The watch measures 52mm wide

The watch is stem wound / stem Set.

The watch has a mineral glass.
