Unusual Silver Hunter commemorating the discovery of America c1892

This is a Swiss silver hunter which has a very decorative case made to the discovery of America in 1492.

Movement – the nickel 3 finger bridge movement has a lever escapement and is decorated with damascening. The movement has a cockerel trade mark and is in 75% mint condition

Case – the movement comes in a .800 silver case, which has a hinged inner, back and front cover. The inner cover is engraved with details of the movement. The front cover pops open to around 45 degrees. The case is decorated on the front with an image of St George slaying the dragon and on the back an image of the Santa Maria, the flagship of Christopher Columbus. Genoa, the home town of Christopher Columbus adopted the St George Cross as its flag and its patron saint during the crusades.

The case has further detailing on the sides and edges and the case is signed in miniscule script Georges Hantz. The case is in 80% mint condition – some rubbing to the engraving in places

Dial – the white enamel dial has a pair of filigree hands and is in 99% mint condition

The watch has a synthetic glass

The watch measures 53mm wide x 17mm deep
