This is an American pocket watch made by the Elgin Watch Co. This watch has a glass back so that the movement is visible. These cases were used by salesmen and shops to display the movements to customers. Because these watches do have glass back and front, they are not really suitable to use, they are more collectible or make a great display / paperweight on desk.
The watch movement was originally a HUNTER movement but put in an open face case, hence the reason why the winder is at the 3 position
Movement – the nickel full plate movement is decorated with damascening and is signed “Elgin, Ill, USA, G M Wheeler, Adj 17 Jewels” # 10808458. The movement is in 90% condition – small marks and scratches
Case – the movement comes in a large white metal open face case, which has a screw on back and front with a glass back. The case has engine turned detailing around the bezel. The rest of the case has a smooth plain finish and is in 95% mint condition
Dial – the white enamel dial has large blue steel numbers and is signed “Elgin”. The dial is in 90% mint condition – a small mark on the 11 and 5
The watch has a mineral glass over the dial and movement
The watch is stem wound / lever set
The watch measures 58mm wide x 20mm deep
