This is a hard to find silver half hunter cased pocket watch by the eminent maker Charles Frodsham. The case has clear hallmarks for London 1890.

The case is made by Frederick Thoms, one of the best case makers of the period and the movement is an early variant

Movement – the early style gilt ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement with a free standing mainspring barrel. The movement has a compensated balance and is signed “By Appointment to the Queen, Chas Frodsham, 84 Strand, London, No 010083. The movement is in 95% mint condition

Case – the movement comes in a top quality English silver half hunter case, which has a hinged inner, back and front cover. The front cover pops open crisply to 90 degrees when you press the winder in. The case has case makers marks for FT and numbered 010083. The case has stepped sides and a simple elegant blue enamel chapter ring on the front. The case is in 90% mint condition – light mark on the back and a little piece of gilding has worn off the winder

Dial – the white enamel has a full set of blue steel hands and is signed “Cha Frodsham, London” The dial is in 100% mint condition

The watch has a mineral glass

The watch is stem wound / pin set

The watch measures 51mm wide x 16mm deep

The watch comes in a period blue leather box lined with blue silk and velvet but is not original to the watch.
