Rare Swedish Prisoner of War pocket watch stand c1800

RESERVED

Code: 13.32

This pocket watch stand was made by a prisoner of war during the wars of the 1800s.

The stand is made from wood and then covered and embellished with bone.

The stand has a rectangular wooden base supported by 3 large carved bone panels

The main part has a bone balcony with individually carved newels and the corner posts and guard rail have intricate carved patterns. The back of the stand is wooden covered with panels of carved and pierced bone, including a large urn with a plant flanked by two wide columns -each decorated with pierced floral work and then intricately carved with a cross hatch pattern. Then finished with raised burnished finiials

Two slender columns decorated with more intricate carving, hold an upper part which is another balcony repeating the newels and guard rail below. This area has fine slender finials and the back part has another larger area of pierced and carved bone with intricate pierced work and a circular aperture for the watch.  This area is for the watch and there is a hinged flap for access. This is then topped with two urn shaped finals and one heart shaped example

In the foreground there is a carved anchor and cross

The stand is in 95% mint condition – one small crack right on the back edging measuring 1cm but generally no damage just some original lines from the bone in one piece

The stand measures 330mm x 175mm x 115mm
