This pocket watch was made as a promotional give away for Le Cacao Poulain – Chocalate Poulain is one of the oldest chocolate brands in France.
These watches were never intended to be high quality timepieces and are therefore are not recommended to be used as daily timekeepers
The rare feature of the watch is the mystery dial. The hours are indicated by a pointer which partially revolves over the dial to be replaced by the next hour. Due to the spacing of the numbers the sequence defies logic as there does not appear enough room for the numbers to appear this way, until you look under the dial. There the numbers are on three lots of 4 revolving discs which rotate amongst themselves giving this unusual optical illusion on the dial
Movement – nickel ¾ plate Roskopf movement has a lever escapement and is signed “Repasse en Secund” and is in 75% mint condition – many marks
Case – the white metal case has a smooth plain finish and has a hand engraved name engraved on the inner cover. The case has a smooth plain finish and is in 75% mint condition – a very patchy un even colour on the back
Dial – the silver dial has a minute chapter from 0 to 59 with a series of indicators for the hours – see above. The dial is partially covered with varnished cardboard with the an image of a lady gleefully pouring molten chocolate over a globe and the words “Le Cacao Poulain Inonde Le Monde”
The dial is in 85% mint condition
The watch measures 53mm wide x 17mm deep
The watch is stem wound / pin set
