Rare 16s Two Tone 21J Burlington Watch Co in a display case c1907

This is a very rare watch with only 100 produced. This is the Sangamo grade of the Burlington Watch Co and all 100 made were produced within a production run of 1984511 and 1984610. These movements were beautifully finished in two tone gilt and nickel damascening and were Illinois’s only top grade Burlington marked watches.

This watch comes in a glass backed case. Going back a 100 years ago, salesmen from the watch companies would visit shops to show the latest models and rather house them in cases, where the back would have to be removed, they used these cases which had a snap on back with a glass back so the dial and movement were visible. Shops and prospective owners, would select the dial, movement and then the case they wanted for their watch.

Movement – the nickel ¾ plate movement is decorated with two tone damascening and has a lever escapement with a micrometer regulator. The movement also has gold train wheels and gold jewel settings. It is signed “Burlington Watch Co, USA, 21 Jewels, Adjusted Temperature, 6 Positions, Isochronism” 1984542. The movement is in 90% mint condition – some small spots and marks

Case – the movement comes in a white metal Illinois Watch Co Display case, which has a snap on back and bezel. The case has a glass back and front and is in 95% mint condition

Dial – the white enamel dial is double sunk and has the correct dial for a Burlington Watch with its unique scroll numbers. The dial is signed “Burlington Watch Co” and is in 90% mint condition – there is a forked hairline on the 2 and 3 and a light hairline on the 5

The watch has a mineral glass on the back and front.
