This is an English silver Benson half hunter which has clear hallmarks for London 1939.
This watch has an English movement as opposed to the Swiss made movements. The whole watch is of a higher quality than normal and feels like a superior watch when you hold it.
Movement – the English gilt ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement and is signed J W Benson, The Bank, Best London Make, 9372, 62 & 64 Ludgate Hill, London”. The movement is in 99% mint condition – a superb example
Case – the movement comes in a top quality English silver half hunter case, which has case makers marks for JWB. The case has a hinged inner, back and front cover and the front cover pops open crisply to 90 degrees when you press the winder in. The case has dark blue enamel numbers on the front cover and a smooth plain finish on the rest of the case. The case is in 95% mint condition – flawless inside but there is a small dent on the side and light surface scratches on the back but overall a superb watch
Dial – the white enamel dial has a full set of blue steel hands and is signed “J W Benson, London”. The dial is in 100% mint condition.
The watch has a mineral glass over the dial and in the front cover.
The watch is stem wound / pin set
The watch measures 51mm wide x 13mm deep
The watch comes in its original brown leather box lined with velvet and silk.
